GROWING YOUR PEOPLE’S SKILL

As  Theodore Roosevelt , the former American President said, “ The most important single ingredient in the formulae of success is knowing how to get along with people”.   Julian Craig  also points out, “ No matter how much work you can do, no matter how engaging your personality may be, you will not advance far in life/business or any endeavour if you cannot work through others ”.  This virtue requires you to see the value in others.  One of the best stories I ever read that illustrated this point was told by a Nurse.   ‘During second year of Nursing School, our Professor gave us a quiz.  I breezed through the questions until I read the last one:  What is the name of the woman who cleans the school?  Surely, this was a joke, I thought.  I had seen the cleaning woman several times, but how would I know her name?  I handed in my paper, leaving the last questions blank .  Before the class ended, one student asked if...

TELL TO WIN BY PETER GUBER

Image
The Book is about the strategic importance of appealing to people’s hearts in order to persuade others to support your vision, dream or cause, through story telling. Non ‘stories’ may provide information, but stories have a unique power to move people’s hearts, minds, feet, and wallets, in the story teller’s intended direction. For example, in film making, if you miss the audience’s hearts, the only wallet that gets hit will be your own. That is because the heart is always the first target in storytelling . If one is pursuing a cause that will improve the life of others, for instance, providing clean water for kids in Somalia, and one tells a story of how kids in this area die from lack of clean water and such film is viewed by an audience of businessmen, it’s most likely going to appeal to their hearts, and then the cheques of donors can start rolling out. To succeed, you have to persuade others to support your vision, dream or cause . Whether you want to motivate yo...

ADVERSITY: One of the Catalysts for Learning

Image
Extraordinary people survive under the most terrible circumstances and then become more extraordinary because of it. Most of the time, we don’t choose our adversity, but all the time we can choose our response to it .   If we respond positively to difficulties, the outcome will be potentially positive.  If we respond negatively to our difficulties, the outcome will be potentially negative. There’s a story about a young woman who complained to her father about her life and how hard things were for her.  The adversity of life was overwhelming her, and she wanted to give up. As she listened, her father filled three pots with water and brought them to boil on the stove.  Into the first he put carrots slices, into the second he put eggs, and into the third he put ground coffee beans.  He let them simmer for a few minutes and then placed the carrots, eggs, and coffee before her in three containers.  “What do you see?” he a...

Redemption and Legacy The Story of Easy Eddie and Butch O'Hare

Image
I'll tell youtwo short stories. The first is set in the 1920s. It's a true story. There was a man in those days called Al Capone . I don't know if you know the name, but he was a very famous gangster . He dealt in illegal trade alcohol, gambling, tr afficing , drugs etc and he was a very violent man. And he had a friend known as Easy Eddie, who was a lawyer . And Easy Eddie had a great talent. He knew exactly how to bribe, persuade or threaten to get what he wanted . for example, he would bribe judges, police sergeants, jurors, witnesses. And what it meant, at one point, to give you an example, Al Capone beat a man to death with a baseball bat in a restaurant that was filled with over 100 people and there was not a single witness willing to come forward to testify against Al capone . And that was down to the skills and threat of Easy Eddie. So Al Capone recognized his abilities and he gave him everything. Cadillacs, jewellery. At one point he gave him an e...
