The Architect of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew's Legacy
In 1965,
Singapore was forced
out of Malaysia. It had no army,No natural
resources. No clean water, Just two million
people, most living in slums.
Singapore wasn't
supposed to survive.
It depended on British troops
for security and Malaysia for water.
With a GDP per capita was under \$500. the world had already
moved on. The country was
overcrowded and filthy. Slums lined the streets.
There were no factories, no real industry, Unemployment and poverty were widespread.
Then came Lee Kuan Yew. He had
already become Prime
Minister in 1959, and he
made one thing clear “I am
determined that Singapore will survive.”
From that moment, he began building
a nation with no room for failure
and no tolerance for
corruption.
His first priority
was restoring trust in government. Corruption was crushed, Ministers
were paid well to eliminate bribery.
He created a civil service
that operated like a high-performing corporation.
Next came jobs Singapore had only one real resource: its people. Lee opened the country to foreign investment. Global
giants like HP and Shell established operations.
To attract business, he removed every obstacle,
Low taxes. Zero red tape,Reliable infrastructure.
Stability became Singapore’s greatest asset.
Then he rebuilt
the education system
from the ground
up, English became the main
language of instruction. Schools, technical institutes, and universities were established.
Today, Singapore ranks among the most educated
and prosperous nations
in the world.
