A LEADER WITHOUT TITLE
Titles do bring power, but the issue with the kind of power they offer is
that once the title is removed, the power vanishes along with it.
For example, the authority that comes with being
an CEO lasts only as
long as the person holds the title CEO. When
that title is taken away, so too is the power that accompanied it.
The influence that comes with titles like MANAGER,GENERAL MANAGER or COO
is often short-lived, especially in these uncertain economic times.
There
exists a far deeper power than title-based power the natural leadership power
inherent in every one of us simply because we are human beings.
Unfortunately, this potential remains untapped
and underutilized in most people. Yet it is available to anyone willing to seek
it out and activate it. In fact, this is power in its truest form.
It’s a power that can never be taken from you, regardless of what happens
in the external world. It’s true power because it doesn’t rely on external
circumstances. This is authentic power the kind of power we should all aim
to possess as leaders. It’s natural power, and it consists of four
parts:
1.
Each of us alive today has the power to show up to work
and express the very best within us, and no title is required for that.
2.
Each
of us has the power to inspire, influence, and uplift those around us through
the gift of a great example, and no title is needed for that.
3.
Each of us has the ability to drive positive change,
even in the face of adversity, and a title is not necessary to do that.
4.
Each
of us who understands the truth of leadership can treat every stakeholder with
respect, appreciation, and kindness. By doing so, we elevate the
organization's culture to the highest standards, and no title is required for
that.
The personal authority you gain when you express
these four natural leadership powers has a far greater impact and influence on
those around you than the formal authority that comes with a title.
Let's always exhibit LWT.
